Cahokia Mounds Day Trip
Time & Location
About the Event
Did you know that Illinois has one of only 24 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the US? Come spend a full day of archaeological adventure with the Flatlanders at the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site near Collinsville, IL. We will explore miles of remains of the most sophisticated prehistoric native civilization north of Mexico. Highlights include Monks mound, Woodhenge, Twin Mounds, and the interpretive center. Be prepared for lots of walking and learning!
We will meet in the Champaign Outdoors parking lot at 7:30am to caravan as a group. If you would like to meet the group at Cahokia Mounds, plan to meet us in front of the Interpretive Center at 10:15am. Bring sunscreen, water, a hat, and snacks/lunch. While this event is free, there is a suggested donation at Cahokia Mounds.
If you are interested in staying overnight to camp, you can find information about local campsites at cahokiamounds.org/visit/#tab-id-9
